How often will we meet and how long will I be in therapy?

Most clients come to therapy weekly at first. It generally takes between 6 and 12 months to make and sustain meaningful change with CBT, however, every person is unique. Time in therapy varies depending on the problems we are working on and specific considerations of each patient.  Many patients stay in treatment longer than 12 months, and we always monitor progress.

Do you take insurance?

CBT of Fairfield County does not accept any insurance directly. That means that payment is due at time of service.  Most clients use their out-of-network benefits to submit for reimbursement of a portion of session fees. I will provide you with a receipt with all necessary information to submit to insurance. You may wish to call your insurance provider to ask about reimbursement rate for out-of-network sessions (CPT Codes 90871, 90834, 90837) provided by licensed clinical psychologists in the 06840 zip code. Also ask about preauthorization requirements for treatment, annual deductible, and limit on number of annual sessions. I do offer a sliding scale fee for service members and Veterans of the United States armed forces.

How long are sessions?

The initial intake session is 90 minutes to allow time to discuss your current concerns, history, reasons for seeking treatment, diagnostic questions, and initial therapy goals.  Subsequent weekly individual, couple or family sessions are typically 45 or 60 minutes. Group therapy sessions are 90 minutes.

What about medications?

Like most clinical psychologists, I do not prescribe medication but where appropriate, I will work with your other providers (psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, internists), to coordinate care and optimize your treatment success. If you are not currently taking medicine we may discuss the possible benefits of a consultation with a psychiatrist and I will assist with referral. Many issues and problems can be resolved successfully without medication; we will monitor progress and discuss together if and when adding a medication consult to your treatment might be beneficial.

How do I make an appointment?

Please call CBT of Fairfield County at 475-558-9525 or contact me through this website Contact portal. I will do my best to answer your inquiry within 24 hours.  A brief, complimentary phone consultation is available prior to scheduling an appointment to answer your questions and ensure that this therapy is a good match for your needs. It is important to find a therapist with the expertise to help you meet your treatment goals, and with whom you feel comfortable.
